Paul HegyiPHYSICIANS: The SDCMS Nominations Committee has announced the annual call for nominations to the SDCMS board and officer positions. The committee will meet in January and prepare a slate of candidates for approval by the board later that month and election in the spring.

To be eligible for service on the SDCMS Board of Directors, physicians must have been active members of SDCMS for at least two years as of the date of assumption of duties: June 2024. Additionally, for Geographic Directors, physicians must have their primary practice located within the geographic district. RETIRED PHYSICIANS SOCIETY’S NEXT MEETING IS JANUARY 8TH | RSVP NEEDED
 
The next meeting of the Retired Physicians Society is Monday, January 8th, 2024 form 12:00–1:30pm at the Denny’s in Clairemont Town Square at 4280 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. Each individual will self–pay their own meal. Space is limited so RSVP’s are required. Please Contact Mits Tomita at mitsuo.tomita@gmail.com or (858) 565–8888.

All retired or soon–to–be retired physicians are invited to come mingle, socialize, and network with your peers. The Society offers a great way to stay connected, remain current on health issues and give back to others. Plus there is no cost to join or be a member.

The Society is Co–Chaired by Mitsuo (Mits) Tomita, MD and Patrick Tellez, MD and Patrick has agreed to serve as the liaison to the San Diego County Medical Society. BLACK IN MEDICINEMIXER ON JANUARY 23RD AT UCSD
 
UC San Diego School of Medicine and UC San Diego Career Center are hosting a ‘Black in Medicine’ Mixer on Tuesday, January 23rd, from 5:00–7:00pm in the Horizon Room located inside the Career Services Center. This event is for students, med students, and professionals who identify as Black or African American. The purpose is to help underserved students learn more about medicine and help them to network. The CMADocs app connects you with the content you’re most interested in and lets you engage with CMA and other members. Though the app provides access to valuable content for both CMA members and non–members, some features are for CMA members only.

FINAL REMINDER: PHC MEDICAL STUDENT GRANT APPLICATIONS OPEN NOW
 
Medical students, do you have an idea for a project that benefits your community but need funding? Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC) — the philanthropic arm of the California Medical Association — offers grant money to support medical student projects that enhance the health and well–being of California’s communities. The current application cycle ends January 5, 2024 at 5:00pm.

The grants are a part of PHC’s MedStudentsServe program, which funds medical students or student organizations to support educational, advocacy, community service and outreach programs. Funded through endowment and restricted funds and administered by PHC, the program aims to develop the next generation of California’s physician leaders.

Eligible applicants include California–based medical student clubs, student organizations and group projects based at an allopathic or osteopathic medical school. Applicants do not need to be a 501(c)(3) organization.

Awardees will receive up to $2,500 to support their project with 50% of the funds awarded upon signing the awardee agreement and the remaining 50% upon completion of the project and approval of the mandatory final report, which serves as a summary of the project and its impact.
